This was the 3rd title to be released in the Sega Ages 2500 series in Japan. Fantasy Zone stays the truest to the arcade original out of all the games in this entire series of releases. Loading screens were removed for your consideration and enjoyment.

The only thing that separates this version from the original is the graphics. The graphics are textured polygons instead of sprites once again, but you really can't tell. The graphics are many times cleaner than the original arcade because of the use of the polygon engine. Note that my capture device seems to have made the graphics look a tad bit jaggy. I assure you that they are as smooth as silk. There are also some smoother effects than the original that can be seen in the laser power-up. The sound and music are 100% straight from the arcade. In this version you have the option to play the original arcade just as it was, or play the slightly enhanced mode where the only difference is that you go into a 3D bonus stage upon defeating a boss where you can collect alot of cash money as the defeated boss spews out coins and then blows up. Yeah, they were sort of reaching here, but it does help curb the games difficulty by allowing you to collect money with no risk of dying. The only way to get money is to collect it from enemies that drop money, and that can get you killed easily.

To be honest I never played this game in the arcades. It never appealed to me in the arcades. I always walked right by it to play something else. When I first played it on this collection I didn't like it. The whole shooting in the direction you're flying kinda annoyed me. However as I got better at it, it became fun. I did compare this game to the rom emulated on MAME and I have confirmed that this version is extremely faithful to the arcade.
