This is an old test I did last summer, using a PIC microcontroller to produce various colors on a 3-element RGB LED. Just like colors on a computer screen, any color can be reproduced (more or less) by varying the brightness of the Red, Green, and Blue elements of the LED. This is done by the PIC 16F84A microcontroller, using pulse-width modulation.

This was also a test of serial communication between two PIC microcontrollers. The right PIC sends a series of color commands to the left PIC, which implements them.

Contact me for specifics, including source code, if you're interested.

  • hi

I'm new in electronics , great video by the way

i mad a circuit on a breadboard using rgb leds and flip-flop chips

do u think i should put the video of it on here

    thanks

  • Sure -- why not?

  • The serial communication between the PICs is a lot more exciting than the LED :)

  • Well, it me took a lot longer to get the serial comms right than it did to write the PWM control code for the LED. It's done in software, rather than using a SPI or IIC port.

  • hmm what are you trying to do ??pwm

  • Yep; PWM to display different colors on an RGB LED. Just a simple test; I posted it because I was bored and had the video file handy. 8-)

  • we did that in my electronics class in middle school. it was pretty fun. ish.

  • thats very cool.

  • yea definatly. it helps people out. i put up my tesla radiant energy device to inspire people. your circuit would inspire people too.

  • i put a vedo on here of a picaxe 40x chip please could you look at it and comment on it thanks
