  • Did you custom make them? Or where did you buy it?

  • @Emaniac69 The armor is usually bought from professional armorers. A lot of people make their own too. The weapons are usually made by the individual fighters.

  • does he has a larp equipment?

  • @AuGeUNDoHr1 That black armor is from Dark Victory. It would not be good for Larping because they use padded swords and you would not feel the hits. In the SCA we use wooden swords and hit at full power and speed. You can get bruises through the armor still.

  • ah, ok :P

  • @D3mang3l oh did you read my self correction on my wrong statement about 2 hander invented during renaissance? anyway it's only my opinion

  • @GetitUnderCool nice history perspective :)

  • Rispondi a questo video... i have to correct my self! not a late invention of the renaissance, only they had their golden age in the renaissance

  • @D3mang3l well in europe there were shields! zweihander were rarely used in battlefields compared to sword and shield! the first zweihander used by gaulish warriors against the roman legionaries and they were'nt so effective against their shields! they parried the blows with the shield and stabbed with their gladii! of course using a gladius without a shield was not a good idea! later swords became longer, but twohnded swords are a late invention of the renaissance

  • @@malevolenceXXXensues id agree with u on that from the perspective of sengoku era esp. The katana is a weapon of last resort on the battlefield. The bow was the most honored weapon. Spear lance nodachi, naginata etc were all more effective. Just like in europe, anything smaller that a zwiehander was last resort. Now in edo period the sword we call the katana today was perfected. Of course this is all just my airchair opinion based on my lifelong love of the sword. So look it up if u like :)

  • @D3mang3l didn't japanese warriors mostly preferred bows over melee weapons in the beginning?

  • @D3mang3l I have always considered the Rapier and Katana more contemporaries. Few people know that the Katana, is post 15th century and reached its height in the 17th and 18th century.

  • @tsafa1 Yup, a real katana has a lot more in common with a rapier than a longsword. Although I'd say they are more in between the two. And used more often for the same purpose. Most westerners typically only think of the 17th century version of the Katana tho... Not the Tachi, or even the pre 1600 Katana with the 13inch tsuka. Either the Tachi, or longer older period Katana are FAR more suitable for armored combat. but till beaten on the field by the spear, Naginata, and of course the bow.

  • @D3mang3l I go to one practice in Nutely, NJ every Wed night. That is a very competitive one with a lot of really good fighters. I also go to one in Brooklyn, NY on Sundays. That one is more easy going. We have some loaner armor there too. PM me if you decide to go and I will give you directions.

  • @D3mang3l I also train for unarmored combat. In that case I use a rapier. The base idea is the same (attack defensively and turning defense into offense). Power generation is completely different since it only take a very small amount of pressure to puncture cloth and flesh. The longsword for unarmored combat was used for a very short time in Europe. The single handed rapier is much faster and if your out of armor in a city no need for the extra power of a two-handed sword.

  • @tsafa1 I will do that! Thank you! What region are you in? I'm on the east coast, and thinking of coming down to an event one of these days, test the water, see if the people are more my speed now. (back when i was younger I didn't click well with many of the others, very cliquish. Of course I was a young snot then too. Now I'm an older snot, but at least now I got a clue about the "real" version of the fantasy stuff I was into then :)

  • @D3mang3l No offense taken. I though your comment was very polite. Half-swording is allowed here. You can push/pull on the weapon, but not on his body. Sometimes I fight in tournaments with different rules. The skills transfer well. Search for one of my videos called Tu-Chux Grappling. Read the comments too, I think you will find it interesting.

  • @tsafa1 It sure, is, heheh. Also lets not forget that in armor it can be hard to translate if you spend a lot of time training out of armor. I personally used to love the idea of joining SCA and doing heavy, but I train almost exclusively train light or unarmored styles of combat. So I may not fully know what I'm talking about, wearing armor changes technique a lot.

However, I will say, that as a martial artist, good "short" drills DO work in real situations. As in evade -> counter

  • @tsafa1 No real argument there, and I don't mean to imply that you did anything "Wrong" per se. And as a martial arts teacher I totally understand the difference in application versus training. But I also understand that SCA has a rule-set which is necessarily limiting to what techniques and applications are used... You cannot half sword as safely In many cases as it would encourage grappling, and throws (bad?)

Thank you also for taking my comment constructively, as I meant no offense! :)

  • @D3mang3l That said, the techniques in the manuals can be made to work in combat... but it is not a matter of drilling then and just expecting your opponent to cooperate in real combat as in a drill. Its a matter of practicing for about 5+ years in a competitive situation and looking for "opportunities" to use them. Those opportunities only last a second, so only with a lot of practice can you pickup fast enough on them to execute a textbook move. Its sweet when you pull it off though.

  • @D3mang3l I am the guy with the longsword. My main form is sword and shield, but I studied the German system for two years in detail with a WMA school. It is a lot more difficult to execute the techniques in real combat then in drilling. The manuals all assume that your opponent will either attack first or let you attack. They do not account for your opponent being evasive, misleading or changing the timing and distance mid-fight.

  • @tsafa1 Alright I can see that. Thanks for the clarification.

  • @Twycross We are both assumed to be in Mail Armor with nasal helms regardless of what we are actually wearing. The plate armor is for our personal protection since we are using fully powered blows. So in effect we are fighting an 11 th century style, but using 15th century armor so that we are not actually hurt.

  • Neat but you would never use either sword against someone so armored.

  • @lordazn The guy in the Green helmet is using the Katana.
