A real surprise from The Rivingtons. Most people associate them with frantic songs like Pa-Pa-Oom-Mow-Mow, but they did some fantastic ballads.

  • Another winner there P.J. I had not heard it before but I recognize the voice. Eugene Pitt? Very nice.

  • Chances are this isn't Eugene.. He's from Brooklyn and The Rivingtons are from Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure this is Carl White on lead

  • Wow, this is beautiful. :-)

  • I agree

  • A very sweet melody, I like this!

  • It's a hard one not to like

  • Carl White is one of the finest baritone, 2nd tenor voices ever in r and b. He also does Here s My Heart, with the Sharps. Check it out. Im Bruce Mineo. My Brucevob on You Tube are 4 of my acapella songs, recorded in 2010. Carl White is my vocal hero.I did Chain Gang with Carl in mind.

  • @mitzvy The voice is Carl White of the Rivingtons And the other members are My Father Al Frazier , Sonny Harris , and Rocky turner Wilson

  • The lead is Carl White. A great, great, great soulful lead in all the various groups he sang with.

  • Thanks very much for this. I was surfing the iTunes store today and came across the Rivingtons. I remembered hearing something that you had put up a while ago, and checked out a few of their tunes. (Of course I knew Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow and a couple of other things.) Anyway, I heard "Cherry" and flipped. Great stuff, which of course I bought. Then I checked back to see what you had posted, and saw that you -- of course -- had mentioned Cherry. Thanks man, it was a good way to find a new tune.

  • I always liked Deep Water too

  • only knew papa oo mow mow this is nice

  • Yeah you're probably right. I think Eugene Pitt sang with the Jive Five now that I think about it. Great tune just the same and thank you.

  • Agreed, wholeheartedly!
