The Tubes are featured in this documentary performing in NYC and rehearsing for their second European tour. It was cancelled after Fee Waybill broke his leg running off stage. The Tubes returned to Europe in the fall and headlined the Knebworth rock festival with Frank Zappa.

This footage includes a performance of "Smash the System" aka Terrorist of Rock" which was rewritten for Remote Control as "Telecide." Other songs included are "Boy Crazy" "What Do You Want from Life?" "Slipped my Disco", "Smoke" and "White Punks on Dope."

Singer/Dancer Re Styles is featured in the footage as well. The kid getting beat up is Tubes stuntman, Michael Springer. He was also beat up during "I Was Punk Before You Were a Punk" nightly as a fake crowd member. Kenny Ortega is seen as well recording a video with Michael Cotten and working out the dancer's routine for "Slipped my Disco." Bill Spooner gets laughs during his intro for the song, claiming the Bee Gees ripped them off. Classic Tubes!

  • But you don't understand! Lady Gaga SWEARS she invented outrageous stage performances. She's gotta be right, what is she, 22 or something?

  • What an amazing piece! I would have done anything to see the Tubes live at this point in time. By the first time I was old enough to see them in '81, they'd calmed the stage show down quite a bit. How unfortunate that so much of the world just never got it. The Tubes are easily one of the most overlooked and underappreciated bands in rock history. They continue to kick ass to this day. Long live the Tubes.

  • They were the first band I ever saw live, in London on their Remote Control tour in the late 70's, supported by Squeeze. Superb concert and they were amazing. I totally agree with garielaigle, one of the most under rated rock bands ever. Excellent musicians and brilliant live. I'll never forget that show. Re Styles was one of the most gorgeous women I had ever seen, mind you I was only 13!

  • bitch gaga copied these guys

  • Saw then the first time 75-76 (not sure which) International center Toronto... blew me away

Then in spring 1978 I was working with their opening act at Maple leaf garden Toronto. Got to see the organized chaos backstage ..what a system ... costume changes ...props.... flawless.

sometime around early 80's they were in a bar outside toronto .. good show (no Waybill)

Really great guys ... no Big star BS ... just great guys every time I met them.

  • Great video of a very underated band that got mismanaged.

  • These were enormously fun concerts, I got to work on a few of them.

  • @nodancing1 How dare the Tubes steal her act!

  • i saw 2tour's and both time's,i wonder'd if i had done acid by mistake.

    - it was an incredible experience.

  • From this to High School Musical. Kenny, Kenny, what happened???

  • This is fantastic!

  • Long Live Johnny Fucker and the Dirtboxes!
