i mean same thickness and feedrate ... but instead of plastic cut iron...

I love this, reminds me of all the old slant bed CNC lathes they used to machine large diesel cams and crankshafts at ThyssenKrupp when I worked there.
Do you have this blueprinted? I'd love to see some footage of the back side of this machine and to get plans if possible. I've been trying to figure out where you got those bearing screws but can't find any like that, where did you get them?

why does it have to go all the way back for a tool change?

Wow, Awesome machine. I'm trying to do something similar, but I did not plan on making the turret as that typically adds a great amount to the cost.
Is this open source? Do you have a project page? I'd like to see how you built the turret so that I can gauge the expense it would add to my project. Thanks for your help...
