@444004541I'm a freshman in my band too. I play flute but, I know that my percussion puts freshman in pit, Sophmores (unless they are seriously good) are on Bass, Juniors are on snare, and usually the best percussion player is put on quads or tenors. This might not be helpful but, I thought I'd try.

I always wanted to play percussion in band and I was a handed a Flute. Don't misunderstand me I love flute but, I was told I couldn't do percussion. Every once in a while though, I take the Quads from my friend in band and I play them as good as him and he's Percussion captain. Snare and Bass drum are fun too.

My name is Sam I sall you're YouTube video, I'm now in marching band play the marimba, in other words I'm in pit ( freshman) I thought that it would be cool to ask an expert like you on what I should do to be marching I really want to do snare drum for marching but I also need to learn how to play it. Same here, and it took me a long time to get myself together to put this dream of mine into reality. A few months ago I finally started to learn playing drums and I'm enjoying it. And yes, there are no age limits - sorry to hear about your medical condition. Keep rocking - that's the way forward!!!!

Is there really a "correct" way to hold them? I mean, it's like holding a pencil isn't it, everyone has their different ways.

! I am 43 years old, and always as long as I can recall, wanted to play the drums - but I was told, "You are a GIRL, can NOT play drums". They handed me a flute instead, lol, then clarinet, a sax, but now I have my Breatles rockband, and I will be a drummer!
