Why don't you use a BulletBobber so you can steer left and right. They are castable mini planer boards that flip direction when given a little tug. You really should check them out.

Are some of thse fish hatchery fish? I didn't see an adipose fin on one of them. Nice fish none the less. I need to get out to the west coast.
