@Persphonefallen Back then gay ment "having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music. ..." not what it currently means which is prefering same sex. interesting how much a words definition can change things in movies or whatnot over time...

Actually, color film was available in the 1910's, and there were a few silent movies made in color, or had at least a scene or two in color. But like you said, most producers could not afford it since it was expensive. Black and White was a cheaper option that most directors were stuck with until the 1960's.
