@snakeskin2u2 The same thing occurred with "Do the Reggae" by Toots & Maytals (see conversations from artists). References to "let's make it like that reggae thing." From the outset, artists recognized a difference vs. ska. ShantyTown is a rock steady tune, according to the historians, even if it wasn't called that the day it was issued! Maybe this is just semantics. "Don't You Want Me Baby" wasn't "called" new wave when it came out, but now it's referred to as the seminal new wave recording

but that was always just my assumption.
