X Factor singing sensation Janet Devlin picked up her "better than expected" GCSE results yesterday - but then revealed that education is "Plan B" now that she is on the road to stardom.

Speaking publicly for the first time since she blew X Factor judges away with her rendition of Elton John's Your Song, Janet also revealed that her identity has been stolen on Twitter and Facebook.

The talented teen was among the thousands of nervous 16-year-olds receiving GCSE results yesterday and joined her friends at Drumragh Integrated College.

But after opening the all-important envelope, it appeared she had nothing to worry about.

"I'd rather not say what my marks are - but I can say I did better than I expected and I am very happy indeed," she said.

"School was always my Plan B, and my main focus has been music, and right now that is what I am concentrating on.

"It has been a bit crazy since Saturday, I was caught a bit unaware because I didn't realise they were going to show the audition I did on the opening night."

Janet has been a student at Drumragh College since she left St Peter's Primary School in Plumbridge, which is a few miles from her home in Gortin, Co Tyrone.

On Saturday Janet impressed the judges of The X Factor.

The performance launched her onto the global stage as fans on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube spread the word.

However, Janet revealed that those following her online have been duped by fake accounts.

"I know about the number of people following me on Twitter and Facebook and that there are some famous people like Lily Allen, but the Twitter they are following isn't mine," she said.

"It's a fake - my one is JanetJealousy, and I am not even on Facebook, so that account is fake too.

"It doesn't bother me that people have set up this account, but I do think it is a bit sad that some people want to steal the identity of a 16-year-old girl who isn't even a celebrity."

While Janet may not consider herself a celebrity just yet, many think it is just a matter of time. She has already been tipped by one of Saturday night's judges, Gary Barlow, to reach the final.

As Janet walked through Omagh after getting her exam results people were calling over to her.

"Well done Janet, you were brilliant, we are proud of you," rang out one voice, while young mothers were pointing her out to their children. "There's the girl from the TV," said one - but Janet just smiled modestly and said a shy "thank you".

"This is so strange for me," she added. "I am just not used to it, but at home with my three brothers and my parents it's life as always; there I am, 'wee Janet'.

"They are as amazed as I am, but are happy for me. No-one else in the house is musical so I don't know where is comes from, but I play the guitar and drums too and it is all I want to do, it's all I ever wanted to do.

"I used to ride horses a lot, for five years I did showjumping all over Ireland and I loved that.

"It's OK being back home now but I will have to leave soon and go back to England for The X Factor, which is ironic because my Plan B was to go to England to study psychology. But this is my dream and it is just fantastic." - Belfast Telegraph, " It's all been a bit crazy for me, says X Factor star Janet Devlin " By Donna Deeney

  • She's only 16, and she sang that song so perfectly!! :) Alexandra Burke told her in one of the live shows "you mean every word you sing" and she's right. Janet is so sincere, and innocent. :) And that's why I love her so much!! ...her accent when she sang: "the best I can do" caused me an eargasm! wow! you're so adorable! :)

    Greetings from Hungary!
