The is a rough demo of the amp I've designed and built.
It's a Les Paul, straight to amp, HotPlate and on to a 1960A 4 X 12.
2 X EL84 in the power amp can be switched from Class A to Class AB.
It can run in triode or pentode mode.
There's a valve rectifier emulator switch.
3 switchable channels; clean, overdrive and lead.
The feedback can be switched to hi, lo or turned off, there's a depth and presense pot.

The pics of the design stage through to the build itself are here http://s645.photobucket.com/albums/uu179/paolojm/Amp%20build/

  • Nice touch to swith from pentode/triode. Are you going to incorporate ultralinear in the future? Have you tried a variable pot to vary nfb rather than a switch from hi to lo? Good going.

  • @analogistheone I may do ultralinear on a future amp. Part of this amps charactor is power valve breakup. UL would reduce this.

I tried a pot while tweaking but found the amount of variation in tone didn't justify it so I put a switch from my two favourite positions.

Thanks for checking out my vid

  • nice sound! hey im as well interested in building one for my own, im majoring in electronic engineering, but i have not found yet books related to valve amplification, could you recomend me anyone?

  • @Maccite9 The Ultimate Tone by Kevin O'Connor, Valve Amplifiers by Morgan Jones and How to Design Valve Amplifier Preamp by Merlin from the ValveWizard website are all excellent books. Morgan Jones also has a book on construction techniques.
