@whenvaporsvanish Another interesting improvement to the revolver ( Which I just recently learned.) was making the cylinder pin non-removable. It seems Civil war officers & soldiers often lost the pin while changing out cyinders in the heat of battle, leaving them with a useless weapon. So the Army made a special request to Remington to redesign them. They did, and It worked very well.

@whenvaporsvanish Basically you are correct. The "New" model incorporated improvements to the original design. And is what my Pietta actually is a replica of. But like you said, the original top strap design was patented in Sept 1858. But it became the reference point. It's kinda like asking for a Kleenx and being handed a Scott tissue instead. The Kleenex brand name became the better known referrence than the term tissue. ;)

@Ghstwn Actually, there was no 1858 model either. 1858 was the patent date. The original name was "Remington New Model Army," and it debuted in 1863. You probably know this though. :)

@33od Or a couple extra cylinders.

It's an 1858. There was no 1857 model. And we learned what from this video? That you had a drunk camera man and probably loaded a brass framed 1858 to max loads like a dummy? Stay in your country. Don't come to the US. :D
