I did the exact same thing! Our local PBS station in LA (KCET) didn't carry DCI live that year, so I watched on the San Diego Station (Channel 15), which was mostly snow for a picture but had ok audio. I taped the entire show and brought it to school (11th grade) to play for my friends in marching band. I was a tenor sax player then, but commited to learning drums and eventually played snare in Blue Knights and tenors in the Freelancers.
Oh boy, brings a tear to my eye.... ....... Truly a magical corps...to this day when I see my fellow North Star corps mates I feel a special attachment..I do truly look forward to seeing them, always....Heck, I married one twenty (dare I say) 7 years ago ;-) ."Rick 78"
MAN!! what a find!!! I recorded this very performance on a handheld audio tape recorder holding it up to my TV and I must've listened to this tape hundreds of times I loved it so much as a kid, lmao
OLD SCHOOL DCI!!! nothing like todays circus IMO. Thx so much for posting this!
Dave Vose's writing was so original and different! And the tuning, snare sound, pitches, etc. varied so much from corps to corps. It was so much more interesting than today! Thanks North Star for some cool, clean beats!
