I purchased the Intex Excursion 4. Its taken scrapes on rocks etc, and held up great. On a 8 hour trip down the rio grand on a hot day the plastic around the boston valves softened up in the heat and popped out like two boobs, but otherwise everything else was fine. I had wondered if I should have bought the 5 instead. but the 4 is roomy enough for 4. Now wanting more seeking a whitewater raft, and wondering if the Mariner would be an affordable compromise to a raft costing $1000 plus?

More about our trip down the Rio Grand. I estimated the trip at 4 hours, it nearly took 8 due to lack of water flow. We were stuck on sand many times. The plastic parts of one oar started to make creaking sounds after about 6 hours of constant paddling, Over all the raft has seen about 15 hours of use and held up fine. We plan to take it on the II - III parts of the river and other than filling up with water I think the raft will do fine. I imagine yours filled with water?

@VEHICROS Sounds like you had some fun. I think Mariner is build a little sturdier then Exursion so might be a better choice for whitewater rafting. I am pretty content with it. It did fine for a $350 raft. Better test will be next spring when water will be higher and I am planning to raft a section farther up the stream where the water is much more rougher and there is more rapids.
