This is a great idea... never would have thought of it myself and can't wait to try it. Thanks for posting!

amazing!! by far the best "ashtray"?:

@subuchatt - I hope you do; it comes out really nicely, and once you get the gist of it, you can slyly pull out a pair of scissors at a picnic a impress people with your snippery, lol.

does it matter if the water bottle has "sculpted" lines or shapes on it???

@mpiskotaki23 - Nope, not in the least. If you can tell, my water bottle had the normal rows of horizontal ridges, but you can do it with the 'filligreed' bottles as long as your scissors are sharp and your aim is true. It may help to cut at a bit of an angle, also, but nothing more than 30 degrees, or the strips will be a right pain to tuck aside.

what if you got the angles right on the fins and made a wind powered airvent (like the ones on vans and guard houses) could work :P

@EkatanktE - Yes! That's where the idea originally came from.

all i see are some pretty sweet ash trays.

@rayjrusi - Yeah, the metal ones work well as ashtrays. The plastic ones do, too, but you have to put a tablespoon of water or a scoop of sand at the bottom.
