Marilyn McCoo and the Solid Gold Band, led by musical director Michael Miller, perform "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" -- the #7 hit of the week, some time in late 1983. The song was a big hit for Elton John, and is a blues ballad that still sounds great 25 years later..... Hope my fellow McCoo fans enjoy it!
The producers are drowning out her voice with the instruments.

I still just don't understand why Marilyn wasn't offered a contract in the early 80s...she should have been making albums during that time.

Marilyn did "Saving All My Love For You" before Whitney was ever heard of! I love them both!

I guess they wouldn't allow Marilyn to sing "under the covers" (she sings: looking for cover). How innocent that seems now!

Wow! Nicest cover of my most favorite song so far!
Strange I was born in 1983, the song was released in 1983, this was in 1983!!!
Hahahahaha!

Watching this video one might think this is an up and coming group debuting on the Johnny Carson show but it's not, it's the finest female vocalist to ever grace a stage...Marilyn McCoo. She sure knows how to turn a good song into a great song. Let's not forget the Solid Gold musical director Michael Miller who creates renditions that only Marilyn could make so beautiful and pefect... great team. Hey McCoofan, I don't know how you find these but thanks so much. It's nice to see these again.

Ahhh Marilyn makes another song all her own .. She never seems to just sing a song, she makes you feel the song .. That's what separates her from so many other singers .. They have great voices too, they just don't make you feel what you are listening too .. Kudos to McCooFan for another classic ..

Beautiful woman and outstanding voice.
For you youngsters, she was the "Whitney" of her time.
Don't beleive me, look up the song, "if I could reach you."
Awesome talent.

I reckon in those days they must have gone out to buy the tape, and manually write down the lyrics as they heard it. Very Cute.
