Dr. Dave looks at how a thrown pool ball heads nearly in a straight line, despite the sidespin transferred to the ball.

  • The theoretical diagrams still account for shot speed and ball friction. Again, friction can vary from one set of balls to another. New, clean, polished, smooth balls will have less throw than older, beat up, and dirty balls.

    Happy throwing,

    Dr. Dave

  • The numbers in the articles aren't as important as the trends. The exact throw values depend on ball conditions and shot speed. Slightly different speeds were used for those two diagrams. Also, throw amounts will vary from one set of balls to another.

The SIT article you mention applies to direct hits only. See my Jan'07 and Feb'07 articles for understanding how CIT and SIT relate for various types of shots.

    Good luck with your game,

    Dr. Dave

  • It's a Predator Z.
