i just started first week of outboard inboard marine mechanics and my dad has the same engine on his boat...2 problems...1 its got a blown up gear case, and the rebuilt one is in the shop waiting...with a bill...2... my dads a straight up 24 beer a day drunk, and he will NEVER pay the bill and get the part because it is about one weeks worth of alchohol survival to him...lol im contemplating to just steal it and light his boat on fire... any suggestions?

why does yours have a modern BIA bolt hole pattern bracket? Mine has the clamps on it, and I bought a jack plate for it, but the clamps are in the way.

The old Mercs are the best. Low, flat wake, perfect for skiing. Wish I had one.

back in the 70s we had one on a 18 ft mark twain . We were always Johnson
Evenrude folk .But It was a very hard to start engine .Once it got hot it was hot.
I think it was just a fluke we probably could have gotten the cold start bug fixed.
Really a cool power plant .As always I was just a kid I could not appreciate it .
like I do now.

how fast were you going in this vid?
crazyfingerz27 1 year ago
@crazyfingerz27 The boat will do 45-52 mph depending on which lake it is on and how many RPMs the motor can reach that day. It averages 5200 RPMs max however it has gone up to 6000 RPM. GPS speed that day was 50 mph.
