On Sunday Nov 29th 2009, the LHC operators managed to reach for the first time the record energy of 1.08 TeV with one beam. A few hours later, on Mon Nov. 30 at 00:44 they managed to circulate both beams at the record energy of 1.18 TeV for 45 minutes.

  • Congrats to all of you at CERN......Amazing work! The future is exciting.

  • If the two beams were brought into collision, the energy would have been near 2.36 TeV. It will be exciting to see the beam energies reach the next milestone of 3.5 TeV for a potential collision energy of 7 TeV.

What will really be interesting to me, is if they will be able to push beyond the LHC design limits to achieve beam energies near 20 TeV by the year 2020.

Be prepared for major breaking news from this facility by 2013.
