August 29th 2006 marked the one year anniversary of the devastation in New Orleans caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This Special Greg Palast Report brings you exclusive footage and the stories you won't hear on the other networks — the hidden political agendas and the suppressed eyewitness reports.

Big Easy to Big Empty - The Untold Story of the Drowning of New Orleans
In this half-hour film, Greg Palast and his team travel to New Orleans to investigate what has happened since Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast last year. On his visit, he discovers that the population of New Orleans is miniscule, the reconstruction sparse, suicide rates are climbing, and many have not, nor know how to, return to the city that care forgot. He examines why residents had to leave, what really caused the flood and why they aren't returning.

  • America should be ashamed for what it is doing to its own people. Bush Jr. compounds his criminality. Why the Media and general public are not screaming injustice, I will never know. Sort out your own backyard before wasting blood and money in other countries. I really believe America has become an almost perfect fascist state. My heart bleeds!

  • I live in New York and this fucking infuriates me still; south or north, black or white, rich or poor: these people are americans, YOUR brothers, whether you like it or not.

  • Reckless negligence like the Democrats who are spending America into a hole for these kinds of lost causes instead of leaving it up to the insurance companies. If the Democrats weren't so wasteful, I don't doubt, knowing George Bush Jr. as I do, that he would have provided GENEROUS relief. That's what government is for, to spend VERY little and then POUR it on in a real emergency. But instead, it HAS no money because it is in debt for 10 effing TRILLION dollars, you evil mass murdering liberals.

  • actually the water came from lake pontchartrain

  • The LSU board of regents fired Hoorden, for unspecified reasons more then likely this and his book. If you put politics before science, people die stick that up your ass right wingers.

  • Anyone who can seriously believe that this was not man made is in serious denial and needs to get with reality.

  • This is Jim Crow at its worse.

  • Even these after the fact exposes can be misleading. The levess breached the day after Katrina on a day when there was a clear blue sky. Out of nowhere the people heard a gigantic explosion and water rushed in and flooded that area of the city. Later, residents testified to that fact before congress yet it seems to be left out of all these documentaries.

  • da 9th Ward got hit da worst bcuz it sat right by da water

  • I agree. If you have money and power, "Freedom" is yours for the taking, including when you have committed a crime and sentenced to jail time. But if you are poor, you are just a commodity to make money off of. It is not "democracy." It is an oligarchy. And what makes it saddest is that so many poor whites support the oppression without realizing it will turn on them too.
