Looking after orphaned baby monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation. Hands-on-care around the clock is essential at this age for their survival.

As they grow stronger and more independent, they are eventually integrated with a suitable adult female and gradually become less reliant on human contact.

You can own just about anything in a country as uncaring about nature and wildlife in America. Primates are terrible pets - they're messy and have a tendency to bite. Leave them in the wild where they belong. Google "Charla Nash" if you want to see a good reason not to keep primates as pets.

@TheGlacier77 Once they are grown up enough that they don't need people, we integrate them into a troop of older monkeys into an enclosure where they live a natural life. We are currently working on locating release sites for our troops.

@jordandenny89 you don't, illegal to keep as pets, and for good reason - this is why the rescue centre I work at exists, they come in as orphans or ex-pets when they start biting their owners.

The reason I commented is because I believe if you are against something, you shouldn't encourage a person's behavior by giving them an answer. When the original commenter asked "how do i obtain one of these" it is the responsibility of people who care for primates to explain that owning a monkey as a pet is not a good decision for anyone. I'm not trying to be right, I am right.

@SElement91 Why are trying to be right? It matters little to me. I have to question any of the so-called monkey lovers when they subject any baby animal to that. Again, your opinion is valid, as mine is. Morals are a matter of opinion. The person that paid $5500.00 for the baby monkey could not have kids, and thought this animal would fill a part of her life that was missing. To me that's misguided, and wrong. What happens when this male hits puberty? They make horrible “pets”.
