He Cried - "Shangri-Las" - Peak Position;#65 in 1966

I met him at the place, where we always meet.
He put his arms around me, he smiled.

And when I told him, I didn't love him anymore.
He cried...(He cried) And when I told him
His kisses were not like before
He cried...(He cried)

I knew that our romance was over and done
But for hm it had just begun
And when I told him, another boy had caught my eye
He cried...(He cried)

And when I kissed him.
A kiss that only meant goodbye
He cried...(He cried)
(He cried) (He cried)

---(Music Interlude)---

(He cried) (He cried)
And when I told him
(He cried) (He cried)
when I kissed him goodbye
(He cried) (He cried)

  • Mary Weiss is totally under-rated in Rock and Roll history... Today, she is very humble and minimizes her contribution. But the reality is, at her age, to bring this kind of quality voice, emotion, and total presentation (also when on stage) to the Shangri-La songs. Well...you be the judge. I say it is quality all the way and astounding for a 15 - 16 year old at the time.

  • Agreed! I learned about the Shangri-Las in the 1980's and I was shocked to find out Mary was so very young! I could not imagine doing what she could at that age. Mary is amazing, and as gracious as can be. She and her late bandmates belong in the RHOF. It's a disgrace they still have not been inducted over so-called 'Rock' acts like Madonna, and Donna Summer.

  • @faeryquene Couldn't agree more! The Shangri-Las were the best, most unique 'girl band' (I know Mary hates that term!) ever!!! I had the pleasure of meeting Mary and she is is just such a lovely, sweet lady. Recently had a solo album out and I saw her perform - she can still rock! It's a crime that the Shangri-Las aren't in the RHOF.

  • So.... The Horrors covered (or paid a tribute to) Rowland S Howard who covered The Shangri-Las who covered Jay and The Americans?

  • I am familiar with Jay and the Americans and the Lettermen's rendition of "She Cried" but had never heard the Shangri Las' song "He Cried." Learn something new........

  • @underpuka only one part..¡¡

  • the same lyrics of "who can say by the horrors"

  • @02nothing It sounds like The Horrors were paying a tribute to Rowland S Howard's version. Which is also excellent. I prefer it to this but only slightly, because I love Rowland's voice. This is great though!

  • LOVED IT THEN LOVE IT NOW-

  • hello brent i remember the 60 very well i was 25 when they were around it was a good time for me thanks for posting

  • it's obviously a tribute.
