Giorgio Rizzarelli - http://youtube.com/urbania70 - performs a piano jazz interpretation of the theme from the 2nd movement "Adagio" of "Concierto de Aranjuez". Composed in 1939 by Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-99).

ABOUT THIS COMPOSITION AND MY ADAPTION
This composition is an interesting crossover of Spanish and Classical music and, in the original version, a dialogue between classical guitar and orchestra instruments (interestingly, Rodrigo didn't play acoustic guitar for he was blind, but piano).
It was inspired by the sounds of nature in the gardens of Palacio Real de Aranjuez, still a residence of King of Spain, near Madrid.
The melody develops itself on the natural minor scale (also called Aeolian), typically used in traditional Spanish music. The piece is very popular in Spain, but has also world popularity, particularly in Spanish language countries, Turkey and USA. Many artists, often in jazz, did their own version. In my jazz interpretation I put also a bit of Middle-Eastern scale elements (after all Spain had Arab influences). I apologyze for transporting it from B to C, where I'm more familiar with scales, but well, it's a jazz interpretation.

  • @SalMessina1 Grazie mille, piacere Salvatore

  • I love this version, especially the scales variations you throw in. You mentioned below that you're improving around spanish and Arabic scales. I'm guessing the Spanish scale is C Phrygian (transposed up a half tone from B), which Arabic scales are you using?

Anyway great job and thanks for the inspiration.

  • Wonderful music! Thanks for posting!

  • @tkbas Thank you for the compliments and the interesting question.

Yes, transposed from B to C.

The scale which I call Spanish, C D Eb F G Ab Bb C (the melody here is based on that) is called Natural Minor or Aeolian. The Phrygian scale would have Db instead of D. However the two scales are connected.

There's no much of Arabic scales here really, except pieces of them based on a semitone followed by a "jump" of a 3rd or similar.

For space reasons I post (much) more about by private message.

  • @fimoar Grazie mille

  • caspita sei proprio bravo!! complimenti!!!

    messo tra i preferiti..un saluto
