Hi PAUL , I was wondering if you could explain me something i have been meaning to ask you for quite sometime .I want to clarify the meaning of this sentence (Thank you for having been my friend) can i say I Sorry for having tossed pieces of chalk at you . thank you and i'll be looking forward to your reply

@cubanbas3ball100 -- That's a good question. The "ing" word after the preposition (for) is a gerund followed by a past participle. I'll have to look this up. The sentences are okay--they suggest the action happened in the past. Here are alternatives: "Thank-you for being my friend," and "Sorry for tossing chalk at you." Your sentences are correct, but the ones I wrote are a little simpler.
