@crazyjoel123 There were only 2 survivors: a prisoner held in a thick walled cell, and a shoeshiner living on the edge of town. so unfortunatly what you heard was not accurate
That is amazing! I love how they did that, great effects & model work. I'm glad the film was restored. I'm sure they had survivors / witnesses who helped them recreate what happened.
crazyjoel123: Martinique is an Island in the Caribbean, a French overseas department. Paris, of course, is the capital of Metropolitan France, in Europe. Even today, you'd struggle to go to Paris and back in two days. In 1902, the round trip (per ship), would take you 4 to 6 weeks. I don't doubt for a second the veracity of your grandfather's account, but if he scooted to Paris and back overnight his name must have been Clark Kent.
Wow, I herd story's of my great grandfather and a couple of his friends took a trip there for 5 days, during the 5th day he went to Paris to do an unknown project, his friends decided to stay till he came back, two days later he came back and the whole place was nothing but rock, burned bodies, and ash. Luckily his friends survived but were 3rd degree burned. And thats how he was that close to death.
