I Have A Hope That Something Is About to Happen
Advent Hope:1 Sermon by Pastor Johnnie Porter M.Div
November 28, 2010

Trusting in one's faith when it appear hopeless: is often difficult for any believer. Pastor Porter share in the this first Advent Sermon for week one- (HOPE). As we celbrate the coming Christ during this Christmas Season, we remember that Jesus promised to return for us someday John 14. Hear in this sermon illustration, Pastor take a look at Abraham's testimony remembered by Paul in the New Testament. As Paul is looking from the other side of the promise he helps us to understand how he himself got there through Abraham and the faith and hope it took for him to get there. Abraham did not know how it would happen, but all he did know, was that it going to happen.

Romans 4:19-25

19-25Abraham didn't focus on his own impotence and say, "It's hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child." Nor did he survey Sarah's decades of infertility and give up. He didn't tiptoe around God's promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said. That's why it is said, "Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting God to set him right." But it's not just Abraham; it's also us! The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless. The sacrificed Jesus made us fit for God, set us right with God.

Pastor Porter reminds us that:

1. We must be daring to trust God to do what only God can do.
2. We must remain believing in spite of hopeless circumstances.
3. We must continue living on the basis of what God says he will do.
4. We must not focus on hopeless circumstances.
5. We must not start asking cautiously skeptical questions.
6. We must continue plungin into God's promises and coming up strong and ready for God.
7. We must continue remaining sure that God will make good on what he says.

8. Lastly we must ask God to help us trust Him and His way. Ask Him to Help us simply embrace him and what He does.

So today stop worrying so much about how it's going to happen. But instead embrace the hope that "something is About To Happen".
