    The point of being good at math or mental calculation is not solely to become a human calculator. Rather, it improves one's mental efficiency, sharpness, and critical thinking skills. Think of your brain as a muscle, the more you use it (or actually the more different ways you use it) the better and more efficient it becomes.

    They are not soulless but rather disciplined (especially since this is in japan)
