  • Onslaught5012, I'd recommend visiting rimfirecentral . com and scroll down to the Remington 597 section. One of the stickies shows how to do it

  • Bronquel, once you remove the set screws holding the guide rails in, work the bolt a couple of times. If you cannot grasp the rails with your fingers, wrap some tape around needle nose pliers and pull the rails out.

Also, to help with your extraction problem, I would suggest a Volquartsen Extractor. Search for it online

  • Kiwi, cleaners used were CLP Breakfree and Gun Scrubber Synthetic Safe

  • I have added a video on disassembling the magazines for those interested.

Oddball200889, I made a patch holder from .095 weedwacker line. Melt one end into a ball and cut the other at an angle to hold a patch.

  • Ok, previous comments aren't appearing. I used CLP Breakfree and Gun Scrubber Synthetic Safe. On other firearms, i use Hoppes 9. I avoid WD40 as it does not protect the metal.

  • what about the trigger assembly it would be nice to see someone do the trigger instead of just spraying it out.

  • Thanks really helped my for my first time cleaning :)

  • hey guys i got a good fix for the jamming problem. just buy 2 597 magnum outer springs and they fix the jamming. I did it and my 597 never jams

  • Thanks bro!

  • thank you so much for making it look that simple...lol.

  • Any ideas on how to take the extractor out? I'd like to replace mine with the Volquartsen one... Great video btw!

  • thank you - i purchased this gun and have not been able to figure out how to take the rail guides off. I'm going to try taking the rail guides off tomorrow, my action keeps jamming (some spent shells don't eject all the way).
