This was transposed a half-octave down so Dion could sing this as an alto; it's written for soprano and most of those here have absolutely no idea of what I'm talking about though admittedly this is superbly done.

@heavenlyboy34 I'm sorry, but if you think opera singers sing Habanera mechanically, then you've obviously never heard a good Carmen. Opera singers use good technique, but there's much more to opera singing than "mechanics." BTW, opera composers intend for oepra singers to sing their compositions, so how can opera singers singing opera go against the composer's intention?

@arpeggio1358 cross-genre performers are not necessarily bad. Have a listen to orchestras playing Gershwin, for example. I personally think this version of Habanera is good. It's a romantic period piece. When exacting "classical" singers bring a sort of mechanical perfection to it, it loses the composer's intention. We're all entitled to our opinions, though. :)

I have always liked Celine Dion, but my respect for her has grown after listening to her Habanera.

nice :D for a non-opera performance, it's excellently sung. =)

TRES BIEN:) J'ADORE CELINE DION;)

This is perfection because she is fluent in French, and the delivery of this song is 100%
When opera singers sing popular songs, it sound a little too academic. This is the other side of the coin. I am an opera singer and I liked it!! it sounds sexy, sensual, of course in other tone, but I like the way she pronounce the language and she is really enjoying it.
