If tonal music could satisfy absolutely every musical desire and was perfect in any way, atonal music would have no need to exist, and so it wouldn't exist, but obviously that isn't the case. No tonal music can have the same emotional impact on me that some of Schoenberg's music (like Pierrot Lunaire) has on me, and while it took me a while to grow to love 'atonal' music, i got there in the end and haven't looked back.

If he finds it "appalling" and worthless then it is rubbish to him.
Personally, I find this music to be interesting but unable to elicit any kind of emotional response.

Honestly, I would be a fool to state that Schoenberg and Webern were idiots because as in terms of their art they are both geniuses. Regardless of this, I think it's incredibly unfortunate that music involving various forms of serialism have earned a sort of moral high ground for their composers, and in particular for the listeners.
If there is one thing I have learned at high school, it's that an audience of any kind of art may find depth in even the most emotionally devoid.

@Carthsgtr You'd call Schoenberg, Webern, Berg, Ligeti, etc etc etc, hipsters and imbeciles?
-
This doesn't lack tonality because the emotion the composer wants to convey cannot be done through standard harmony and melody, but because someone was pretentious enough to say "how can I be different". Not how can I be better, or how can I take music to new places, but simply because they were a hipster and an imbecile.
I hate our Justin Beiber's and Jason Derulo's as much as the next (intelligent) person, although even that fails to be as emotionally void as this.

@murraytaylor123 You didn't make sense in the comment I responded to, and you continue not to.

@FreeVonHelton It certainly seems that you're trolling the 'top comments'. Being a victim of Tall Poppy Syndrome isn't so bad.
-
@tivibtr3d Ergo being devoid of any artistic expression.

@murraytaylor123 What kind of stupid attempt at logic is that?!

Hmmm, I need some help. I am researching Arnold Schoenberg and his 12 tone composing. I need to understand how he worked this out, and what rules he applies to it. I mean, I find that most of his compositions are awkward in a huge sense, but it is rather interesting how his compositions still have a direction. I just don't know enough about this to understand it's musical range, or direction to understand what these musicians play, so please respond to my plea!
