you can buy usb2 nes controller. you should run a hub into the case from the motherboard and wire up the 2 ports on the front, so you can use origional contollers. that wud be good for emulation because you want a media center AND A NES. cos that would be elite. Also the controllers could be used for simple navigation on a media center. id recommded somthing like the windows or linux versions of xbmc (hd compatible), which also can run emulators. But id recommed a remote or better controller too

@drumboog This project is amazing. you did fantactic job and i followed you all the way. I wish I had the tools to try this myself. Maybe when I can afford. But that guy mightymax is exactly right. If you could configure the layout in such a way where you could make the harddisk hot swappable using the original cartridge slot. Then you would have a truley incredible mod. I really hope you try a new version and do this. I would pay $1000 to have one of them. Priceless

@merdzd I don't like how you spell.

This guy is awsome. But the years staying inside his house learning all this stuff, definitely shows. Super slooooooooooooooow

I still think it would've looked better if you would've put two NES controllers together and put the SSD inside of it and ran the wires inside of some shrink tubing into the case.

just got gay, make the harddrive fit in the top fit it in... who cares if its tight, id rather get a 40g sd card then that.
-
if you didnt have that honking giant fan then you can easilly place the SSD and DVD drive internaly
-
Could have fitted it inside...
Hey you can get them screw sockets to remove them screws from nes carts....got them sitting right here lol bought them years ago ;)

@Docthewrench Yeah, I saw some of those online, but I didn't want to have to wait for them to come in the mail. I'm sure they'd be easier to use though.

I went back and forth on whether or not to do it that way... in the end, I did it to free up space inside the case. It turned out better that I expected.
The cartridge does stand out a little the way it is at the end of this video, but once the whole PC was completed, I think the whole theme looks pretty good... but I guess that's my opinion.

It would have been cool if you were able to salvage some of the original NES hardware where cartridges are inserted for read and modded it so that SSD connectors would line up in a way the NES cartridges did so that you can have swappable internal HDs that look like NES cartridges and are inserted exactly like you were putting in an NES game... I doubt there is any room for this no matter what kind of configuration you have, but just saying ,that would be bad ass.

I agree... that would have been an awesome way to do it. I probably could have fit it in there if I went with different options with the fan, but I'm not sure I have the skillset to get into that... I guess that's never stopped my from trying though... lol.
