AFAIK, some of the most sophisticated masters of the Arabic language were actually non-Arab. Sibawayh (a.k.a The Imam of Arabic), Ibn al-Muqaffa', Al-Jahiz, Al-Zamakhshari ...etc
Of course the Qur'an isn't very appealing poetry because it was never meant to be. It is a form of rhymed prose.

It is no surprise that Arabic was never popular for poetry in islamic world.Instead non-arab muslim poets preferred Farsi or their own languages.I couldnt find much explanation on qurans poetical form. All I can see is every line ends with a rhym but lines are not following any specific form like count of syllables as in farsi or turkish or urdu poetry.Like Surah Yasin when vocalised;second line is composed of 6 syllables, the third 9,fourth 8,again 8 .At the seventh goes up to19 than18 and 26..

The bible or torah is also supposed to be "allah's revelation" that were corrupted. We all know many stories in the quran contain the same stories, hence those particular verses can not be claimed to be corrupted. Does any version sound inimitable to people? nope. Hence they hide behind our ignorance of Arabic to fuel their arguments.

The "challenge" was only meant to be an empty rhetoric to rally the followers. No believing muslim would ever try to imitate the quran as it would be like challenging god. Any non-believers at Muhammad's time trying to imitate it would have only lent the quran credibility.

Mr Atheismo, I am well impressed with you knowledge on Islam these days. A superb show. Really enjoyed this one.
So Allah the Almighty invites people to write a better Quran, and when someone tries, Mohammed has them killed? And Muslims still believe that Allah is the author? And they insist that others take the challenge?
Islam.. the more you learn, the nuttier it gets

Guys, can you make an audio-only version of this podcast? I would love to follow TJATS but I just can't stand watching a 2-hour-long video on YouTube, especially when there's not really much "video" going on.
