@ruger111dog ya you are right, that sounds you refer to was the full emergency set up of the brakes but there is no way they would have stopped, at that point all you can do is say "shit, hold on" and hope you don't die

@5292Nate Even though it was the brakeman on the local train crew, who actually failed to line back the switch, the conductor & engineer were also found at fault for not following rules/procedures for hand-throw switches in Trach Warrant Control (TWC) territory. As well, the dispatcher was also found at fault for failing to confirm with the crew that the switch had been lined back. The engineer on the coal train sued BNSF and was awarded a $3,000,000 judgment.
