Proust and His World with Larry Bensky. Thursdays, January 28 - March 4, 2010
9:30-11:30 a.m.
Delve into a multimedia exploration of the life and times of the great French writer Marcel Proust, best known for his monumental work In Search of Lost Time. To better understand his writings, well discuss events such as the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War; anti-Semitism and the Dreyfus Affair, a political scandal involving the conviction for treason of a young Jewish officer; the Belle Époque, a period partly characterized by a radical transformation of the arts; and World War I and its aftermath.
