Lagu ini pertama kali diciptakan oleh Muhamad Arief dari Banyuwangi, lagu yang mengisahkan keadaan rakyat Indonesia khususnya di Jawa Timur tahun 1942-1945 dibawah penjajahan Jepang, rakyat waktu itu sangat menderita kelaparan sampai tumbuhan genjer yang pada dasarnya adl tumbuhan ilalang dipake oleh rakyat untuk makan....setelah waktu berlalu hingga tahun 60an dipake oleh PKI untuk propaganda dan dipelesetkan GErakan meNumpas JEndRal...akhirnya dijaman Pak Harto lagu ini di Banned...
