Dr. James Porter, medical director of robotic surgery at Swedish laces a football using the da Vinci robot to demonstrate how this device gives surgeons greater surgical precision and dexterity over existing approaches.

Minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery can offer patients significant benefits over traditional approaches, including less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, faster recovery time and quicker return to normal daily activities.

Swedish is a leader in robot-assisted surgical procedures. Its program has a longstanding, successful track record of performing more prostate, kidney and gynecologic surgeries than any other medical center in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S.

Swedish affiliated surgeons are using the surgical system to perform minimally-invasive urological, gynecological, and thoracic surgeries, for diseases such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, uterine, cervical and ovarian cancer, lung cancer, and endometriosis in complex gynecological reconstruction surgeries. Recently, Swedish expanded its robot-assisted service offerings and began using it in bariatric, ear-nose-and-throat, colorectal, and general surgeries cases, including colon and pancreatic cancer.

It has a simple feedback system like some touch screen telephones when you touch the screen, but thats one major drawback of the system. Can't determine hardness or resistance with it, still very powerful. You cant see it here but the camera also produces a stereoscopic image in the controller, so the surgeon has a 3d field of view of everything.
