  • Your voltage regulator has gone bad or is recieving too weak of a signal from the voltage sensing wire, causing it to let out more voltage than it needs, when actually, 14 volts is optimal. Do you have an aftermarket one wire alternator or the factory three wire Delco 10Si type?

  • @turfshredder I have original remanufactured Delco alternator and a new external voltage regulator.

  • If you havent already, check the voltage at the battery with another gauge or a digital multimeter, because the gauge in your dash may be out of calibration. Proper voltage should be between 12.5 and 13.5 at idle with voltage drop already figured in. If there is high voltage at the battery, then the problem could be the voltage sensing wire. This is the wire coming out of the "R" terminal on the alternator. This wire should be connected to terminal "2" on the regulator. Is this your setup?
