This isn't 1984, and this isn't "You get to do whatever you want, and not have consequences" land. He asked his question, the politician answered it in a way he felt was cool, and then the guy kept pressing, even though it wasn't really needed. He isn't Tom Brokaw, and when the cops asked him to leave, he could have easily done so, secure in the fact that he had his voice heard, but he didn't follow directions, basically making a scene.
