3 Killed, 2 Injured in Eagle Rock Car Crash

Eagle Rock -- Authorities say road rage may have played a part in a deadly crash that was originally attributed solely to street racing.

The investigation began late Wednesday night after the woman, her younger sister and a young man were killed after their car smashed into a tree and burst into flames in the Eagle Rock area.

Officer Marjan Mobasser said Thursday that detectives spoke with witnesses at the scene and now believe the more likely cause of the crash is some type of road rage incident. She did not have further details, adding that the investigation was in its early stages.

One of three vehicles involved in the incident was driven by 20-year-old Cristyn Nicole Cordova, who police say was eight months pregnant.

Also killed were Cordova's sister, Toni Marie Cordova, 16, who had been in the backseat, and a 19-year-old Los Angeles man who was ejected from the vehicle, said Assistant Coroner's Chief Ed Winter. His name was not released.

Two other males in the vehicle were ejected and in grave condition at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena.

"This is the grisly, gruesome result of a street race that started long before this collision," LAPD Lt. John Romero said at the scene.

The driver of a car believed to have been involved in the street race, a 19-year-old man, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of murder, Guillary said.

Did you read that? Yes, "street race." Murdered? That seems a bit harsh. At best, they probably pissed off the white car doing donuts or something, causing that driver to respond erraticly in machismo rage and accidently slam the rear while showing off in like form.
