As a Christian and as an American I believe that the mosque should be allowed. It isn't on Ground Zero, it's just close to it. And not all Muslims are crazy extremists in the same way that not all Christians attend Westboro Babtist Church.
Americans believe in the freedom of speech and the freedom to express religion. If we suppress an entire religion because of the acts of a few what are we really accomplishing? Hypocrisy. That's it.

@srpowerserg don't worry its not a mosque, its a prayer room and they are building a memorial. I believe its finished now. Two square fountains that outline the foundation of the twin towers with the names of the victims on the side, plus they're building Freedom Tower. Not to mention the prayer room is like 2 blocks away.

As a New Yorker I'm torn between whether or not the mosque should be built. In one sense it is a slap to the face for the families affected by that tragic day, but in another sense not all Muslims would commit such crimes. Maybe 99% of them are very calm good people. I understand that it's right next to Ground 0, but is it really on it? We as a country believe in Freedom of Religion so why not build it. It could go both ways really.
