I don't buy that. Fumbles and penalties are all a part of the game and more times than not happened because of a difference in talent or discipline. USC forced those fumbles and was a much more disciplined team than PSU was. PSU had not faced a defense as dominating as that all season, and it showed, with guys jumping offsides, getting holding calls, and Clark under constant pressure all game. Could PSU have beaten USC? Yeah, but they would have had to play the perfect game to have a shot.
It really had nothing to do with talent. The fact is Penn State played its worst game of the year. USC played a near perfect game to counter, and thus the lopsided result. If USC and PSU both play mediocre games, it's tight. USC just outplayed them so badly that game, and when two equal teams face off and one outplays the other, it's bad news.

Everyone fell asleep during the second quarter. We dominated the other quarters.
USC plays at the LA Coliseum, UCLA plays at the Rose Bowl.
