You should get an alarm with the squealer horn instead because it's frequency is much lower than the alarm shown and that will usually do the trick!

I saw a sale of 17 SpectrAlert Advances on eBay once. Whoever bought those could just wire them all together into the smoke detector, and then, the kid is awake.
