I know, most Ethiopians appreciate great accomplishements of Abebe Bikila, Mamo Welde, Mirus Yifter, Haile G. Selassie, Kenenisa Bekele, Meseret Defar, Tirunesh Dibaba and many other great long distance runners regardless of their humble origin.
