I wept each time , Thank you.

This is wonderful
-
His voice was, without a question, one of the greatest instruments of the age.
-
Deller's articulation is so clear, and his phrasing so precise, that the words always carry their full weight - no matter how expert or sophisticated the music.
Sometimes - when the words aren't too good - this can actually work against him.
But when the poem is already a masterpiece - as here - it makes him impossible to equal at what he does, let alone surpass.

Loved it! The lyrics were written by the great poet Ben Jonson. This is the third stanza of a poem called 'The Triumph', one of the best poems in English.

Breathtaking- one almost hold's a breath when listening to his singing- Counter tenors of today are, perhaps, more 'sophisticated' but this man undoubtedly set the bench mark. I ahve the complete Vanguard recodrings- I dont thinj he made a poor record- He brings delight and refinement to everything he sings

Seeing Deller on video is just so special! Many thanks for uploading!
One thing I like about Alfred is that he sings with a baroque style rich in ornament so naturally without a slice of affectation.

Thanks very much for the post, it is always "moving" to vision his performances; too rare...I can't say less than I love Deller over all other counter-tenors....still , yes, there are good singers, but for me no one reached his emotional & perfect way of "inhabiting" these "auld" songs and making them still alive today for many people around the world....this is great, great music !
