Fooling around with a foot ostinato I saw Benny Greb doing in a video. Most of the video is just messing around with random ideas and patterns with different camera angles.

One section you'll see me playing a right hand ostinato playing on the "e & a" off beats, which is taken from Terry Bozzio's "Samba Ousado". I play some melody quotes from that same piece as well.

Another section is a polyrhythm of 5 (left hand) vs 3 (right hand) vs 4 (feet). The mic on my camera isn't great so this one gets kind of muddy, unfortunately.

  • roadpro stool ftw :D

  • @ballgrat The best throne there is!

  • Even more impressive then. I suspected DCI cause of the little things you know. Good posture while playing, proper tuning, ergonomic kit layout, good foot control. You should consider DCI or something along the lines, great to get connected with the right people. Your technique while good needs a little work, but everybody's does. Check out Bill Bachman, legendary tenor player. Right up your alley.

  • Thanks so much! Yea, I've seen Bill Bachman; he's awesome! I would love to get involved with some sort of marching group like that. People in DCI are absolute machines. I think I may have already aged out of DCI (I turned 21 a couple months ago), but it would still be great to work with those kinds of people anyway.

  • Nice tenor solo, I like your sweeps. there is no way you get chops like that anywhere else but DCI.

  • Wow, thanks, man! They don't have DCI (or anything similar) near where I live so I've never done any marching or anything before. The closest I've ever come is trying to play Mitch Markovich snare solos, haha.

  • Great drumming mate..!

  • guess it is influenced by terry bozzio eh?

  • this is a benny greb's exersice but not samba!!! good work keep playing !!!!

  • Samba? WTF!!!

  • Congratulations man, you are incredible

  • lame!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't see how this guy needs work on his technique. It works for him, and he's doing some great things with it. There is no such thing as one correct technique, especially when it comes to playing the drum kit. People use what works for them.

  • You're better off as a kit player having not played in DCI. Those guys make for awful kit players, they get force fed chops and it makes everything they play ultra rigid and wanky.
