Its kinda funny, here in the US and in Canada sex and swearing is censored on TV yet, blood and gore is fine. But its the opposite case in Germany and the rest of Europe.

@payn0094 yes but everyone in the usa will understand this too i guess.. but good to know... i personally thought its just the short form for saying "or something"...
and yes most things are cut in germany... splatter movies or games are cut... that means brutal scenes are cut out...tv is mostly cut but cinema it isnt but you habve to be 18 years old for splatter or porn movies

Right, but in other countries like USA swearing and sex is more censored on TV than in Deutschland.
So dont be "onesided" (im not sure if that word is correct here - hope you know what i mean).
I think the question is which one is more harmful for the mind of younger people: violence or nudity? Nudity to a certain degree is natural and having sex doesn't harm anybody. But nobody can say that people killing each other is good in any way and if we let 14-year-olds see it without any control they might get "used" to it and not consider it as bad anymore. The purpose of censorship and ratings should be to protect the viewers and the society and I think they're doing a pretty good job here.

@juliegirl1989 The thing is, that we have a good rating system in this country - but it "protects" also the adults with the justification of protecting the youth and that does not make sense in my eyes, because under the normal ciscumstances the youth should be not allowed to see movies not suitable for them. In my eyes everything should be OK to be shown in a movie (except real violence of course), the audience itself should decide "what do I want to see and what not" but if it is too extreme

@juliegirl1989 but if it's too extreme, it's for adults only - it's actually just that simple. Why should the government tell me what I'm allowed to see and what not? I'm a grown up and I decide myself and if I had kids I would take care of what my kids should see and what not because I (as a parent) am responsible for my kids, not my country.

Good video, very informative. I just wanted to point out something that a lot of Germans do when they speak English -- they add "or so" onto the end of the sentence. This makes no sense to us (English speakers). Normally, English speakers would say "or something" / "or something like that." For example, "these are not documentaries or something like that."

@payn0094 thanks for the advice - I guess it's a "false friend", because "or so" is what you usually say in the german language when you want to say "or something like that" - it's just shorter :)
I'll try to do it right in the future or so...mething like that ;) :)
