Daniel Radcliffe Shakespeare's sonnet 130

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head;
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks;
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go
(My mistress when she walks treads on the ground).
And yet by heaven I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

  • Americans love British accents. I've noticed. Not so much Australian tho. (And Canada? It's north of us except for Alaska).

  • Was I the only one, comparing each line Daniel recited with each line that Alan recited and came to a conclusion that this poem is boring unless Rickman isn't reciting it?

  • His mistress' eyes are nothing like Gwynneth Paltrow's.

  • Just a normal voice... but Snape's one is much better

  • Oh my God. He had a gorgeous voice :3

  • Of course, no one but Alan Rickman (with the possible exception of Jeremy Irons) could recite a Shakespeare sonnet with sufficient passion and power. So it's rather unfair to compare Daniel's reading to Alan's; Daniel is a fine young actor with a pleasant speaking voice, and while he could never measure up to Alan's performance, he does an admirable reading of this sonnet. Not bad, not bad at all.

  • I'm just not feeling any emotion in this. Sure he has a cute voice, but it just feels a bit like he isn't connecting with the meaning of the sonnet as much as he could have.

  • soar a goddess go:-)
