Boschs new and improved Pocket Driver is small enough to fit into tight areas and corners and is described as the most compact and powerful screwdriver in its class!

First Impression:

When I opened the box I thought I was looking at a toy. Boy was I wrong!! I'm sure most people will underestimate this powerful compact tool as well.

What impressed me the most was how compact and super light the Bosch PS21 Pocket Driver was. It's only 1.8 pounds!

Working overhead with this driver is going to be much easier and with no neck and shoulder fatigue now that I do not need to use my other heavier driver.

The PS21 Pocket Driver's short nose is the perfect size to fit between floor joist, stud and rafter bays and inside and underneath cabinets.

I install alot of finished cabinets and often times have difficultly getting screws into certain spots. This driver is perfect for fitting into these tight spots - plumbers will love this tool when working in tight spots like under sinks.

Power, Torque and Batteries:

As small as it is the PS21 Pocket Driver packs a big punch in power to size ratio delivering 265 pounds of torque.

When testing the PS21 Pocket Driver out in my shop I drove dozens of 6" Timberlock lags and 3" screws without pre-drilling into framing lumber with ease. The tool is exceptionally well balanced and
engineered.

The tool comes with two 12V Max lithium-ion batteries. The batteries fis inside the tool handle grip and do not stick out and get in the way like other bulky brands and models.

These "smart" batteries protect both the driver and the battery from overloading, overheating and deep discharging which are three most common causes of cordless power tool and battery failure.
The 30 minute charger is a breath of fresh air when involved in repetitive drilling / driving operations, resulting in quick battery change outs.

The PS21 Pocket Driver has a two speed switch (1st-0-350 RPM / 2nd - 0-1,300 RPM)

Driver Design:

The PS21 driver measures only 5.6" long and weighs 1.8 pounds, it's basically the size of my outstretched hand.

The handle of this driver has a comfortable rubber grip and a real nice ergonomic feel to it.

The fit and finish of the driver immediately gives the impression of well thought out quality and the hard impact resistant housing is tough enough to withstand the rigors of the job site.

The variable speed trigger switch worked well, was smooth to operate and is excellent for starting screws or pilot holes slowly and increasing speed as needed. The drivers chuck is a 1/4" Hex Universal Bit Holder which is the only universal bit holder in its class which clamps on all common bits (C6+E6)

One real nice feature is the "AutoLock" function. As soon as you release the trigger, the bit locks in place allowing you to use hand power to rotate the tool when you need a little extra torque or to loosen a screw slightly. Well done Bosch!!

The 20+1 Clutch Settings is perfect for adjusting the torque of the driver to predict and allow for precise screw driving and depth setting. Just under the drivers chuck is a bright LED Light. This light is designed to enable you to illuminate and see the working area / screw head by adding a light in dark areas. another feature that will come in handy inside cabinets and under counters.

My Opinion:

I really liked the Bosch Pocket Driver PS21-2A and recommend it to everyone. I've used it on the job site as well as in the shop for two weeks. Many of my wives's friends have also inspected and handled this tool. All of these women were impressed with it.

The best features for me are its compact size, light weight and size to power ratio. Two of my favorite features were the LED light and Auto-lock feature

The Bosch PS21 fits nicely into my tool belt and I'll be regularly reaching for in place of my full size drill on a regular basis.

I can see the Pocket Driver being used across the board from homeowners to contractors. The PS21 driver is perfect for the house mom or homeowner making normal repairs and powerful enough to withstand continuous use at the job site!

  • One thing I can tell you about those on-trigger lights is that they can be pretty nauseating if you pulse the drill a lot, which is inevitable during use. It seems like a good idea to have it on the trigger but the constant on/off/on/off flash really gets annoying when you're up under a cabinet or in a dim work area. One could tape or wire mod it but on those small frame drills it really needs something factory for full on/off of the light due to possible seizures off a ladder.

  • Great review, thanks. I was going for a Makita or DeWalt originally but happen to see this one on sale at Lowes. Was the last one and a little hesitant due to never owning a Bosch. Just got it yesterday and haven't used it yet but your review as well as some others have put my mind at ease.

  • Good review, thank you!

  • Excellent review.

I was really consider buying this Bosch for my new toolbox for the around the house. I had a few others in mind, but after your review, I'm getting one!

  • Awesome video!

I plan on getting this but want to see how it will compare to dewalt's new 10.8 volt tools. I want the ps31 (regular chuck version) too.
