  • @BarbaraPloyer333

unlike Beethoven who was surely overestimated (pastoral music without any sophistication)

Tchaikovsky has always been underrated and if he's still so well known it's thanks to British and Americans but Europe always dismissed him ,"too much European and sophisticated for Russian music" ????

and it's the same who idolize pretentious music like Boulez or Schoenberg

  • i didn't have this one

i have another theme of The Voyevoda

this is with fatum from the less known works of his

  • The moment I heard it, I knew I just had to own this lovely thing. I found it on Amazon, on Theodore Kuchar's Naxos album. Unfortunately it was a 'complete album only' track and I had almost all the other pieces. Also I had absolutely nothing in my bank account. So, £5.20 for the album, plus £8.00 bank charge for going over my limit... Sounds quite a lot to pay for less than 10 minutes' music. Not at all. It was worth every penny. Thanks for uploading.

  • @freixieirokatia not at all

  • The opening melody on the horns is played no fewer than 10 times in succession, though around about the 8th time Tchaikovsky changes some of the notes here and there. The other piece that he wrote of the same name (ie: the Symphonic Ballade The Voyevode) is a lovely work too.

  • What conductor/orchestra? Interesting piece, but it would be courteous to list performers. Thanks in advance.

  • Nice version. The version I have on Vox by Janos Furst and Bamberg Symphony on Vox has the last grand theme played about half the tempo speed. Total time is10:00

  • Who is the conductor and the orchestra? I have this on LP and CD on the Vox label. Janos Furst is the conductor.

  • Did you know that in Russia, Tchaikovsky is mainly known for his opera?

I can sure see why. It's a heck of an ouverture!

  • This is the overture to a very early opera by Tchaikovsky, which was apparently unsuccessful. However, there have been a few recordings of the overture. Toscanini even conducted the NBC Symphony Orchestra in a performance of the music for an NBC radio broadcast.
